Lightfall Review Spotlight

‘Tis said, if the Dragon Prince falls, so falls the kingdom.
Lucky for the kingdom, I—a nobody thief—am here to catch him.
But now he won’t let me go, and I may be the next feast of The Dreadmarked Dragon.

We're celebrating the release of Lightfall by Elsa Jade! Make sure you treat yourself to this one!

Lightfall is the first book in Elsa Jade's The Dreadmarked Dragon series, and let's just say this...this book is not fast-paced, but it has a gripping storyline that is going to keep you coming back for more.

What does a street urchin have to lose when she finds herself with just a second's worth of an opportunity to escape her pursuers and join up with one of The Chosen? Well, let's just say...it's probably going to be better than whatever punishment they are looking to meet out on her for stealing. Feinan was abandoned as a child, and forced to grow up the streets. But things are changing. A Devouring has been called for, and one of The Chosen briefly makes an attempt at escape. You can guess that things don't go as planned.

Feinan though takes the opportunity presented to her with the arrival of the Dragon Prince to join this particular Chosen One in the hopes that this opportunity will bring her something, anything better than her specific plight.

Feinan is an interesting character whom the author focuses on throughout the story. She's got nothing to lose and it shows. Of course, the friends that she inevitably makes along the way try to keep her in line, but...good luck with that. She submits when she wants to and when she doesn't? Well, she doesn't. But one thing is for sure, once you have Feinan on your side...you've got yourself a good friend.

The storyline's pace is a bit slow, but it's engaging. So, no real complaints here in that respect. You get spurts and sparks of drama and when it comes...it is intense and hard-hitting. You're going to be glued to the pages to discover how that particular scene is going to play out.

Love it or hate, you get some "holier than thou" characters up in here, too. We particularly love to hate them. LOL! They could easily choose to sacrifice themselves to the dragon for the sake of all, but God forbid that happen, right? Because as one character so eloquently says..."there is a lot that many will give up, but power isn't one of them." Truer words were never spoken. Let me tell ya.

This book has a lot going for it, and it will leave you eager for what comes next. So, don't miss out on this book and grab it today!

5 out of 5 stars

Lightfall (The Dreadmarked Dragon Duology #1)

Publication Date: May 13, 2024

Genre: Romantasy/ Adventure

  • Epic romantasy adventure

  • Snarky heroine makes bad choices

  • Doomed prince

  • Found family

  • We all have wounds

  • You are my only light

He is the Dragon Prince, cursed and bound by sacrificed auras to a savage demon dragon. Wielding the barely tamed monster like a weapon, the prince fights the hellish horde to preserve the light of all the Living Lands.

Me… I’m nothing. Or not quite nothing. I’m a good thief, with clever fingers and a wayward tongue—which only gets me in trouble when the glowering Dragon Prince rescues me. He wasn’t rescuing just me, of course. There’s a fine lady and a brave soldier and a shy little shepherd boy, and also a holier-than-me cleric and a king.

Now, because of a mistake that was not really mine, I’m trapped in a dangerous adventure. Demonic verges are splitting across the kingdom, releasing ghastly spawn from the Lost Lands. Even worse, the enchanted chains on the dragon are fraying, and the lifetime of scars that wound the Dragon Prince are bleeding where only I can see.

We must find our way through ancient tomes and fabled talismans and terrible battles before the kingdom crumbles. But I might be falling too—falling for the dreadmarked prince. He did save me, after all, so I might just save him in return.

Enter the exciting world of the Living Lands in LIGHTFALL, book one of The Dreadmarked Dragon duology, an epic romantic fantasy, where noble intrigue and demonic war are equally fatal, where one touch in the dark may lead to desire or damnation—and love might be most lethal of all. For fans of slow-burn romantasy who thought The Lord of the Rings needed a few more kisses.

Division X Spotlight

I’m not me when I kill people. At least, that’s what I tell myself. I wake up, and I know I’ve done something horrible. My hands are covered in blood, my clothes are gone, and my stomach feels full. I don’t remember what I did. All I remember is the pain. It’s impossible to forget...

Genre: Paranormal Horror

The monster killing business isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Ever since her attack, the animal comes out to play. And on one full moon, the beast inside tries to eat her younger brother.

Division X, a paramilitary group hellbent on the eradication of monsters, intervenes and saves Randi's brother from being devoured. They take Randi far away and imprison her in a place no monster can escape. Held captive, Randi is given an ultimatum. Work for Division X as a new weapon in the fight against evil or be dissected. Without a real choice, she chooses the former and experiences the dark underbelly of reality as she faces off against vampires, demons, and redneck serial killers. Promised a cure to her condition along the way, Randi does her best to stay alive.

Dragon Blood Review Spotlight

To celebrate the upcoming release of Dragon King, we're going back to the start. If you haven't read Dragon Blood yet, we really think you should!

Dragon Blood is the start of Jane Apatova’s Insatiable Desires series. Yes, we know it says “book two” which, technically it is, but this book is the real jump-off point. So, fellow readers, haven’t read book one? It’s okay. This the beginning while book one is the prequel. But if you wish to read from the beginning beginning...please feel free to do so. We’re sure you’ll enjoy getting the full immersive picture.

Dragon Blood reaches out to readers with a green dragon scale background with a sword situated in the middle of the cover. Doesn’t look like much does it? But is it enough to grab your attention and pique your interest in discovering the story tucked away inside? Well, that will be up to you, dear reader. For most, it might not be due to it’s non-flashy cover, but you know what they say...”Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.”

Dragon Blood is no exception to the rule. While the cover may be unassuming, it hides a rather intriguing novel. Author Apatova promises readers a story with dragons, slow-burn romance, secrets, a brewing war, magic, and so much more. What we also get is age-gap romance. Most tend to think...early to mid twenties for the FMC and maybe late 30s to mid-40s to early 50s. Well...let’s just get this out of the way...the girls? They’re barely of age...17 about to turn 18 and the other is 18. And yes, they’re virgins, too. This won’t be everyone’s favorite tropes to delve into, but if you can move past that...you’ll find a rather intriguing novel.

The first part of the story is rather uneventful. Author Apatova introduces readers to Prince Alister and High King Gareth. Two individuals of dragon blood, they are seeking a better and brighter future for their people. But first thing, author Apatova does is introduce readers to a story surrounding the creation of this unique world. It’s a fascinating story being revisited with a small boy who will one day be king. You get an introduction to the dragons that helped create this unique world.

As the story shifts forward you are put into the characters present day. The story shifts frequently between High King Gareth and his brother Alister. Alister is smitten with a young woman that he met over a year ago. He’s keeping this a secret, for the time being, from Gareth. You’ll understand the reasoning behind, because honestly, there is a particular way that things are done with these kingdoms.

Alister, for some, will probably come off as the more likeable of the two brothers. LOL! Though, just prepare for him to be the possessive one of the two. He’s found the one who calls to him, and she is all that he wants. Regardless of how much teasing Gareth may decide to lavish upon him. Gareth on the other hand, appears to be the exact opposite. Gareth was married for a time, but his wife...is no longer of this world. He has mourned, but he also holds some resentment towards the events that led up to it all. So, for the time being, Gareth is a bit of a...womanizer.

As we stated above, Dragon Blood has a rather slow and uneventful beginning. We eventually get to meet two young ladies who are going to be pivotal to the two men of the story. You’re going to be looking for signs of trouble to crop up though. While there isn’t any “relationship” or romance drama that threatens a potential romantic rival you get to watch the dynamics unfold between the characters.

Once the story hits...around the 30% point...that’s when things start to get interesting. The drama really begins to amp up when a situation arises with the girl that Alister has found love with. It would seem that there is someone in the kingdom who is unhappy with how things are. Who knew? LOL!

Cue the dragons!! Okay, okay, there are wyverns, smaller dragons, too. We quite literally squealed with excitement at the interactions with the wyverns. They just sound so adorable and cute. Cue wanting to cuddle one. LOL! But the dragons finally make an appearance and it is some epic excitement when they do. They come in gorgeous colors, are vicious fighters, and are just truly amazing.

The romance is slow-burn. Alister is fanning the flames of his, but Gareth...well, Gareth is trying to smother his. They both have fated mates, but while Alister is keen on embracing his Gareth is bent on not embracing his. As you read about his reasoning, it’s a mixed bag of making sense. You’ll understand it on the one hand, and then view him as a fool on the other. But hey, he’s a “playboy”...always has been, and it’s going to take an exceptional woman to change that. Challenge...accepted, says Fate. LOL!

Dragon Blood has a lot going for it, and once the story grips you, it’s going to keep you coming back for more. Hate cliffhangers? Well, that’s just too bad, because it’s going to have one. Is it a major cliffhanger that’s going to leave you raging? Eh, not really, but it will leave you...along with a couple other characters...with lots of questions and eager for answers.

One thing is for sure...we can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book.

Pros:

  • Steamy scenes
  • Slow-burn romance
  • Engaging storyline
  • Drama
  • Dragons

Cons:

  • Slow start that borders on a touch tedious, at times, to get through.

5 out of 5 stars

Thank you to the author, Jane Apatova, and R&R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book. We look forward to what comes next.

Severance of the Sorcerer Review Spotlight

The Lost Wells Trilogy is complete!

We're touring Severance of the Sorcerer and now you can read all 3 books without waiting!

Severance of the Sorcerer continues the story of the Lost Wells Trilogy and brings this trilogy to an epic end. This fantasy novel brings a lot of drama to the storyline, before it all comes together in an ending that readers just wont expect.

Severance of the Sorcerer begins the story with Ronan in 2019 AD. He’s alone. He’s struggling and he’s looking for answers. He’s looking for something anything that can help him. He’s looking for a specific cave where he believes that answers will be found. While he doesn’t find exactly what he’s looking for what he gets is something truly important. A prophecy. What does it mean? Where will it lead him? One thing is for sure...it will pique your interest and drive you to delve deeper into this story.

Severance of the Sorcerer shifts forward and reunites readers who are familiar with this series with Dom and Julia. They’re on the run, and can’t really stop for long in any place. The Wraiths are sweeping across the country utilizing Cassius’s toxic smoke hunting Weilders. The world is in chaos.

Dom is struggling with the impact that Ronan’s apparent betrayal has had on him. Julia is worried about him and it’s pressing on her every day that he doesn’t snap out of it. But how long can they deal with this? How long can she deal with this?

Danger is lurking closer and closer. They can’t go home, and staying on the run isn’t really an option either. So, that leaves them with the quest to find a save haven, a place where they can to have a moment of peace. While they find secluded places along the way, they must constantly stay on their guard. But how will it all play out in the end?

Severance of the Sorcerer has a slow beginning, and readers will have to stick with the story before it truly begins to kick into gear, but once it does it’s worth reading. Remember though, this book is part of a series, and the final one at that. So, if you haven’t read the previous books in this series then you’re not going to fully understand what is going on with these characters.

This book continues an intriguing over-arching storyline over the entire series, and the ending definitely will stick with readers after this book has drawn to it’s close.

4 out of 5 stars

Song of the Cicadas Cover Reveal Spotlight

After an amazing ARC tour, we finally get to see the stunning cover for Song of the Cicadas.

                                                                Song of the Cicadas

Expected Publication Date: March 26, 2024

Genre: Adult Fiction

Magic and madness collide in this Celtic reimagining of Edgar Allan Poe's The Telltale Heart, which explores one girl's grief over the loss of a loved one and how solving the mystery of his murder may help her put it all behind her.

“Lir is dead. Of that, I am certain. After all, hadn’t I just seen his ghost? Just as I am certain that his death was not an accident like the police led us to believe in the end, but the result of human malice. A human malice that he had come to me for help unmasking.”

Nature witches have always lived on the moor at the edge of County Kirk, where the land ends and the sea begins at the cliffs of Brigid. With their powers, they control the weather, keep the land healthy and whole and help the crops to grow by providing the right amounts of sun and rain, protect the village from harmful storms, and guide the change of the seasons from one to the next. The most powerful woman her family line has ever seen, Clare Sage has been calling down rainstorms and calming blizzards since she was in her cradle.

Yet her life is no fairy tale, and when her fiancé is killed, she vows to do whatever it takes to track down his murderer and make them pay. Even if that means reaching beyond the veil of the living. Only the land is fraught with danger, the village full of secrets, and the deeper she goes into her investigation, the more she begins to wonder if the killer is someone closer to home than she thought.
