The Red Trilogy Review Spotlight

Welcome one! Welcome all to the book tour for The Red Trilogy with Black Tide Book Tours! Love fairy tale retellings with teeth and a twist? Then this is the book that you're not going to want to miss! Keep reading for more details and where you can grab a copy!

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? Well, you might be after reading this trilogy. LOL! The Red Trilogy by Paul Kane is a gripping, jaw-dropping trilogy set that is going to have you coming back for more. Before you even get past the prologue of book one your jaw is going to be on the floor, eyes bugging out of your head, and your mind is going to absolutely be whirring. Brace yourself, because you've been warned! LOL!

Red kicks things off with a jaw-dropping prologue that is literally going to have you thinking "WTH did I just read?!" Of course, you will hardly be deterred from delving deeper into this story as you eagerly dig deeper to find out what happens next.

It would seem that Paul Kane is an expert at making things appear to be one thing instead of what they truly are, because this book is packed with them. Ready to meet the FMC? Well, Rachel is a young woman who helps care for people in their homes. She's good at her job, she's just really forgetful of things. That's going to be land her in some bad situations in this book - which you'll see. However, it won't be entirely her fault. When you're being hunted...well, simply doing anything in this case is going to land you in trouble. LOL!

This book and the entire series are a collection of insane page-turners. At first, you'll think, ...where does the "fairy tale tie in?" Wait for it, my friend! Wait. For. It!! We thought the same thing when we started reading this book, but it's coming! The wonderful thing of it is that it continues to be tied into the story into book two. You start getting flashbacks, memories, and so much more. So, think that you're going to be putting this book down for a minute? Taking a breather for a minute? Ha! Guess again! LOL!

The Red Trilogy is packed with horrific goodness and we absolutely ate it up. Yes, we're a horror fan, and all you have to say is "I have a horror book...wanna check it out?" And we will come running! LOL!

This dark and deliciously evil twist on Little Red Riding Hood is to die for. You'll be trying to devour this book before it devours you. So many excellent twists, tons of surprises, and drama that won't let you down. Readers who are horror fans? This one's for you!

5 out of 5 stars

“Gleefully gruesome… RED is wonderfully written.”

“Get ready to take this journey through a very modern fairy tale. It has teeth, but not just at the end. These days, the path itself is full of dangers.” (Tim Lebbon – Bestselling and award-winning author of The Silence, Eden and The Last Storm)

RED is bloody brilliant – clever, classy and bound to chill you to the bone!” (Horror World)

Evil takes on many forms – something Rachael Daniels, an innocent care worker, is about to find out… personally.

Something is roaming the streets of the city where she lives, something monstrous with a taste for sweet, red, human blood.

Something that can be anything it wants to be.

Soon, Rachael learns the hard way that not even the friendliest faces can be trusted.

As she makes her way across that city one night on an errand of mercy, she quickly discovers the terrifying creature will definitely have no such consideration for her…

Together in one book for the very first time ever, the RED trilogy is a modern, urban reworking of a classic fairy tale, which puts the horror spin on an old favourite.

Blood RED picks up straight away after the events of RED, the first installment, while Deep RED throws you into a nightmarish future scenario. If you dare to open these pages, you’ll face a terrifying journey into the unknown – courtesy of award-winning and #1 bestselling author, Paul Kane (the sellout Hooded Man, Monsters, Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell, & Before)

A Heart of Onyx Flame Review Spotlight

“You’re dangerous.” He whispered and his eyes darkened. “You have no idea.” And I swung against his block with all my strength.

Welcome to the tour for Lina Ravenhill’s brand-new book A Heart of Onyx Flame! Read on for more details!

A Heart of Onyx Flame is a YA fantasy romance novel by Lina Ravenhill. Brace yourself to be dropped into this story, much like the FMC as she has to discover where she is and try to find a way back home. Of course, nothing is that simple, and she's going to find that out a little at a time. But what's she going to do when she accepts a task to help protect one of the students? It's not going to be easy, but if it's her only way of having a chance at getting back to her own world...then it's what she's going to have to do.

When A Heart of Onyx Flame begins you're literally dropped into the middle of things, just like the main character, Bohdana, and really aren't going to have much of a clue as to what is going on. She's disoriented and confused and understandably so. What she quickly learns is that she has been transported to another world altogether and that she is nowhere near home. Of course, things only keep going from there because she's at a school. Let's just say that...she's far from pleased with her circumstances. Understandably so to be honest.

It's never fun to be dropped into the middle of things, but that's exactly what's going on. Bohdana struggles to deal with the reality of her situation. She's gone from a major fight that she was in the middle of, to a school where girls are expected to learn "menial" tasks to become "good wives" and the boys get to learn how to fight, the art of war, and other things deemed important for them to learn. Well, the warrior in Bohdana is not about to be made to wear dresses and learn how to sew.

You are quick to get the sense that she's a tough cookie and determined to find her way back home. Cue up her getting into some nasty situations because of how uninformed she is about this new world. Of course, the author is quick to show not just her but us as the readers as well that there is much to be aware of concerning this new place. Magic? It's around, but it's not exactly appreciated per say by all who call this place home. Not everyone is equal.

When she's approached to help protect a student, she takes it, because it's the only way she's told she'll be able to get home. Her charge though is an aloof student who is quick to point out...that they don't need or want her help. Too bad they're going to get it regardless. LOL!

This story is a touch slow-moving in the beginning. The story takes a minute to gain it's footing and really engage the reader into what is going on. This is in part to how it all begins and there not really being much of a background to build on. The author does go back and fill in some gaps as to how our main character ends up where she does, but you're going to have to wait a little bit before that scene surfaces.

The back and forth between Bohdana and her new charge is interesting. She's constantly faced with bullies herself and even steps in frequently to help other students who are in need of some help. It's nice to see and to watch her as a character. She creates quite the collection (unintentionally) but it's humorous nonetheless.

The deeper the story goes the more interesting it becomes and the pace even begins to pick up the more you become engaged in the story. Piece by piece the story comes together revealing what is going on and why she has been chosen to help protect this particular student. While no one else at the school may claim to know, there is definitely something going on that points to something huge on the horizon.

Despite the bumpy start of this book it's a good novel to check out and gives readers a nice amount of fantasy and romance to keep you coming back for more.

4.25 out of 5 stars

Thank you to the author, Lina Ravenhill, and R&R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book. I look forward to what comes next.

About the Author

Lina Ravenhill lives in Massachusetts with her husband, Ben. Lina writes messy, funny, and action-filled paranormal romance, fantasy, and suspense. Vampire romance, dragon quests, and witches are simply more fun to write than the plain, normal stuff.

Lina’s first title, Aforetime, is a long-time project, that turned out to be both a pleasure to write and a huge pain to put together.

Lina loves music, especially classic rock, and Lana Del Rey, of course. She enjoys watching a good movie and rereads at least one Jane Austen novel a year.

Sky of Thorns Review Spotlight

We’re celebrating the release of Fleur DeVillainy’s Sky of Thorns! Read on for more details and add this beauty to your TBR!

Sky of Thorns by Fleur Devillainy is the first book in The Vandeleur Trilogy and you are going to be super excited to check this book out! This is a fantasy shifter romance, but this author is bringing us something fresh!! Yes! Fresh!!! We're getting UNICORN shifters!! Cue excited screaming. LOL!

If this cover doesn't grab your attention and pique your interest I honestly don't know what will. This book and title promises to draw you into a fantasy realm that is going to have you coming back for more.

Sky of Thorns begins with young Sybil. All she wants is a better life, but she has resigned herself to living in her village and doing the best that she can for the people there. But all of that changes when a strange man comes barging into her home in the middle of the night, slaps a magical cuff on her wrist, and kidnaps her. WTF, right?! You're going to be left in suspense for a while, but the facts begin to come out a little bit at a time.

Sybil is being accused of treason. Treason! She's never left her village but somehow she's committed "treason" according to the king and queen. Sounds like a reach if there ever was one, and the prince, Aramis, is the one who has been tasked with bringing her in. The big question that arises for this reader is this - why him? Why him specifically? Is it because he has been raised to hate shifters, and they believe that he will get the job done handily? Hmmm...we'll just have to wait and see.

This book alternates POV between Sybil and Aramis, so you get the story from both of their perspectives. I enjoyed Sybil the most, slightly in part due to her little companion, Lemon. Amaris is a frustrating character to say the least. You'll give him a tiny amount of slack for his feelings towards shifters after getting some backstory on him, but just a teeny tiny amount of empathy goes his way. I'd honestly expect him to use his brain at some point. LOL! Question the validity of what he's been told!

Sybil is an interesting character herself. She comes off as weak, but she has hidden inner strength. Of course, I think that she makes some rash decisions that land her in precarious situations, but she's not usually alone in them.

This book is engaging from beginning to end as Sybil finds that she must put her trust and faith in Amaris. Also, Amaris must begin to question what he has been told and what is truth and lie. The puzzle is complex, but if they are going to come out of this alive...they will need to rely on each other.

This is a gripping fantasy romance novel, and I absolutely devoured it. I can't wait to find out what happens next with these characters.

4.5 out of 5 stars

Jemma and the Raven Review Spotlight

Jemma and the Raven is on tour this week! Be sure to check it out and add it to your TBR!

Jemma and the Raven is the first book in this fantasy series by B.D. Reeves. In this YA Epic fantasy you are going to entire a unique world that will grab you from the beginning. This book will keep you page-turning to the very end as Jemma goes on a quest for answers.

From the beginning, the author immediately draws you into this book with young Jemma scouring the cliffs that are near the place that she calls home. She dreams of a better tomorrow for not just herself, but her Raven friend, Edgar. She's an orphan questing for riches to buy herself a place on a ship to find a new and better home. What she finds on those cliffs is something she doesn't expect, but more than willing to take full advantage of.

I have to admit, reading about her stealing so brazenly from this place she has found had me wanting on a level for her to be caught. Am I wrong for that? LOL! Honestly, it would have made for an interesting storyline to see how she'd have gotten out of the situation. As it is, she has a pretty close call, but with the introduction of a pursuer, the author ups the anty on what is going to happen to young Jemma.

Of course, pay attention to what is going on in this castle she comes across. There is something at work in there that is going to impact not just Jemma but everyone she knows.

This story is truly fascinating and kept me coming back for more. Jemma is an engaging character, and reading as she tries to piece together everything that she is learning and realizing adds to this story's compelling elements. You feel for her as you learn that she was abandoned as a child. But the more you learn the more you question - was she actually abandoned or did something else happen to her parents?

Hoping for more from these characters in the future? Well, the good news is that there will be more from this author about Jemma and her Raven scribe, Edgar. This book absolutely reads like there will be more to come, so it's nice to know that there will be more. I'm looking forward to more of Jemma's adventures in the future.

5 out of 5 stars

Thank you to the author, B.D. Reeves, and R&R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book. I look forward to what comes next.

A girl. A raven. A luminous adventure.

To everyone else, Jemma is nothing but a Wharf-thief. She scavenges for tokens in the wrestling dens and parades along the market lanes with a raven, Edgar, on her shoulder.

But she and Edgar have a secret. In a land where memories fade into the Shadows without the love of a Keeper, they scour the ruins of ancient memory palaces, searching for treasure that will buy them a passage to the great city of Adocentyn.

When Jemma steals a map and a golden blade, she sets in motion a chain of events that will tie her destiny to the survival of all who live in the light of Memory.

Can Jemma defeat the darkness she has unleashed, without losing herself? And who is the voice she hears, guiding her along the way? I am with you. Follow the lights.

Jemma and the Raven is a massive feat of storytelling, a work of fabulous imagination, a fantasy inspired by historical realities. It will convey its readers on an epic journey that will both captivate and exhilarate them. ARNOLD ZABLE, storyteller and novelist. About the Author

B. D. Reeves is a Melbourne-based writer who loves to explore hybrid forms in literature. His books combine philosophical, historical and fantastical ideas with magical elements and calls to adventure. His debut YA fantasy novel, Jemma and the Raven, began with a fascination with memory palaces and the Renaissance belief that lands and other realms could be created from memories. He is currently working on the next instalment, along with two other stand-alone novels.

As the child of a diplomat, B. D. Reeves learned the joys of travel from an early age. He once camped in an old shepherd’s hut on a remote Greek island where he discovered the remnants of ancient frescos, the secrets of bees, and the friendship of a goat who followed him wherever he went. He has since adored the concept of animals in fiction.

His eclectic interests have led him to study far and wide. He has completed a Philosophy degree from the Australian National University (ANU), a Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing from RMIT, and a Masters in Educational Research at the University of Melbourne. In 2020 he received the Frieda Cohen award for best research thesis. In 2021 he was shortlisted for the New Philosopher fiction writing awards.

When he is not reading, writing and dreaming, B. D. Reeves teaches philosophy and literature, conducts educational research, and is currently completing his PhD at the University of Melbourne.

A creative at heart, during the lockdowns in Melbourne he rediscovered a long-lost guitar and began writing and producing songs – putting out his first single Liar in December 2020. His EP Contradictions will be released this year.

He lives with his family, two cats (Augustus and Tiberius), and beloved dog, Juno.

Covet Me Review Spotlight

Mafia romance but make it paranormal!

Welcome to the tour for Covet Me by Aurelia Jane and Kel Carpenter. Read on for more info and visit one of our bookstagram hosts for a chance to win a signed hardcover edition!

Covet Me is a standalone paranormal romance novel by Kel Carpenter and Aurelia Jane. This book is part of the Immortal Vices and Virtues series: Her Monstrous Mates – season 2. Yeah, there’s a first season. Go check ‘em out!

Covet Me is Nikki Ward’s story. Nikki has been through hell and back again. She has suffered loss – one of the most tragic of losses – the death of her sister. But an opportunity has finally “fallen” into her lap. The chance to get out from under her father’s thumb – one way or another. The spot for Chancellor is open and there is going to be an election to fill the role. But first? A series of trials to determine who will has the potential to fill the role and be what is needed.

Nikki has been made to feel less than by her father. She has little to no desire to find her mate(s) and be bound to them should they hold the same mentality as her father. But chaos is going to erupt when she pulls a page from one of her favorite Disney movies and takes her life into her own hands. Because, why not pull a Merida and fight for your own hand when your father decides to dangle you out there like a piece of meat as a prize to the winner?

When you start reading this paranormal romance you’re going to be pulled to the edge of your seat from the beginning. You’re going to find that Nikki is a mixed bag of a character. While you may like her one minute, and be rolling your eyes at her the next one thing is for sure. Nikki Ward is one unforgettable character. She may be a part of the syndicate, but she’s looking to change things. She sees the harm that is being done and wants a better life for the people who have to live under her family.

You gotta commend her for that. You really do. Nikki brings humor, snark, and a tiny bit of humility to this story. Yeah, I said tiny bit...she brings a touch, but she does bring a healthy dose of confidence. Sometimes the confidence comes off more as arrogance, but it’s a thin line that gets a game or two of jump-rope in this particular novel.

Nikki has a nasty history that brought a lot of pain and loss to her life. You’re going to want to learn the truth behind all of that, but just hang in there! The authors are going to give you answers that will literally have your jaw on the floor. But! First things first! The trials! Inorder to get anywhere – Nikki has to survive the trials. I honestly expected more from the trials. My brain heard trials and went all “Hunger Games” and what we get is more mafia style. Well, if mafia’s had a style of trials to allow someone the opportunity to take on the role of a higher up in the organization.

Though, the real danger seems to be outside of the trials themselves. Nikki crossing paths with her mates is going to bring a new level of drama into her life, but so are the deaths of other contenders in the trials. Who is targetting them and why? Is Nikki the target or are the attacks random and anyone is fair game?

Life may have gotten in the way – more than once or twice – for these authors, but this book is really something. They wanted to make sure to drop in surprises for readers as often as they could. They were literally like “Oh! You think that’s all there is? Hold on! We have something else for you.” So prepare for surprises throughout this book. Quite a few can and will be found in the final chapters of this story. You’re going to love it.

As this book is a standalone novel you’re going to get an entire storyline from beginning to end with a HEA to tie it all off. You get epic moments with Nikki. Steamy scenes with her and her mates that will have you grabbing a fan...or a cool/cold shower. LOL! There is a fight, but it’s a touch unfortunate that the “big fight” isn’t bigger and more epic than what we get. When you read “King of the Monsters” you think two things – 1) Godzilla (seriously, who doesn’t think that when they hear those words? LOL), and 2) an epic fight. I just wanted this fight to be more epic and dramatic. Something to really satisfy readers.

All in all, this book is enjoyable and satisfying. Readers who like paranormal romance novels are not going to want to miss out on this book or any of the others that are sure to be included in this series.

4.5 out of 5 stars

Thank you to the authors, Kel Carpenter and Aurelia Jane, and R&R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book! I look forward to what comes next!

(Immortal Vices and Virtues: Her Monstrous Mates #1)

Publication Date: March 31, 2023

Genre: PNR

In our world, power is king, and I’m the ultimate bartering chip.I’m the daughter of the Don, but my life as a mafia princess is far from a fairytale.
Trapped in a pretty cage, my family clipped my wings so that I can fill the role all princesses are tasked: to marry a prince and secure an alliance. My mob boss father would give anything to gain an edge over the rest of the Supernatural Syndicates in New York—including me.

So my dad makes a deal.
The terms are simple.

Win the election to become the new leader of Earth and Emerald. Win me.

Except . . . I’m not a very good princess and I have no intention of playing nice.

These men want to compete for me? Fine—but no one said I couldn’t compete for myself.
The trials may be deadly, but I’ve got an ace up my sleeve they won’t see coming.

There’s just one tiny problem.
Out of nowhere, the very mating call I’d hoped to never experience consumes me, and I go into heat—at the worst time ever.

Talk about a sticky situation.

About the Authors

Kel Carpenter and Aurelia Jane are the hilarious team behind the international bestselling series, A Demon’s Guide to the Afterlife.

They pride themselves in being absolute weirdos, spending hours on the phone coming up with detailed worlds and laughing about crazy ideas for torturing characters. While they believe they each have the personality of a rabid badger, people still seem to like them okay.

They share a love of coffee, travel, and tacos, and they’ve made some adorable tiny people with their equally weird husbands. Best friends and work wives, Kel has the audacity to live in Maryland while Aurelia lives in Texas, but they try to see each other as much as possible.
