The Fifth Daughter Review Spotlight

For Fans of Yellowstone & Outlander!

Welcome to the book tour for Julia Brewer Daily's upcoming novel, The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch: A Modern Ranch with an ancient secret!

The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch by Julia Brewer Daily is an engaging family saga story that will sweep you away from the story from the beginning. This story details Emma's story as she finds herself dealing with a well-hidden secret of Thorn Ranch. This secret is absolutely going to change her life.

The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch starts out simplistic in nature, but don't let that fool you. The author fully intends to sweep you away with this book. You get Emma riding one of her favorite horses, and due to some unfortunate circumstances, she finds herself in quite a predicament. When a storm strikes, things seem to go from bad to worse. What is she to do? She's able to find shelter, but she's about to make a discovery that will rock her world.

The Fifth Daughter marries modern day with some engaging elements of surprise and twists. I want to say that it's a bit of a science-fiction twist, but that's probably not right. LOL! I won't reveal what the twist is, but it definitely threw me for a loop. I loved the twist and how it reminds me of a classic author who wrote a story with a similar element to it.

The author details the present and also takes readers back to some of Emma's younger years when she was in college. We get to see how she came to be the individual that she is. Her parents held to a "tradition" concerning her being the only heir to the ranch. I felt Emma's desire to have siblings as such a young age. I say that on a personal note since I have an only child and I wish for siblings for them. LOL!

I enjoyed this book, but I found some aspects of Emma's behavior to make her sound more like an "amateur" than a seasoned rancher. She makes simple mistakes that put her in the situations that she finds herself in. It's a disappointing aspect in the back of my mind. I say that, but I completely understand the intent of the author writing the story this way. The intent is to set the stage for what is to come concerning Emma's story. These things have to happen in order to get to the twist.

This story really brings together a lot of elements in a novel that enjoyed. Engaging chapters that aren't overly long. A storyline that captures my attention and does tie into some familiar aspects from one of my favorite t.v. shows - Yellowstone. Twists and surprises that you just really don't expect from a family saga novel.

Enjoy western novels, family sagas, and surprises? Then this is a book you're going to want to pick up. The author so beautifully captures the beauty that is the great state of Texas and so much more. She absolutely does this book justice and so much more. I'm rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. Tip of the hat to my fellow Texan.

Thank you to the author, Julia Brewer Daily, and R&R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book.
