Secrets of a Rose by Adina Chiles is the first book in her Royal Blood series. Enjoy a good fantasy novel packed with drama, twists, turns, and surprises then this is the book for you!

Secrets of a Rose will pull you in from the beginning and keep you page-turning all the way to the end. Mellena Goodwick is finally of age to attend the annual ball. Her excitement is only mildly tempered by her mother’s good-bye as she leaves. It sounds like more than just “I’ll miss you until you get back.” It almost sounds...final. Is there something that her mother knows that she doesn’t? A shift in the kingdom is coming and only a few are truly prepared for what is to come.

Imagine it. A strange storm breaks out of nowhere. Green lightning. Ear-splitting thunder, and then...in the distance...screams of terror. With each scene that plays out the author will pull you closer to the edge of your seat. Strange things are happening and now, the kingdom is under attack by one who wishes to claim as much power as he can for himself. Prince Lorian is a man to be feared. Not just for the crimes that he is accused of committing, but for what he is planning to do.

Page by page this story weaves an engaging tale with charismatic characters and gorgeous attention to detail. You won't be able to help yourself as you fall under this author's elegantly woven tale. Little by little the truth is revealed concerning our main character Mellena. The adventure that they are embarking on is not one chosen, but one forced upon them. They must do what they can and be strong for each other if they are to make it and save the kingdom that they call home.

The twists in this story will keep you coming back for more. You'll begin to see that not all is what it seems the deeper you dig. Piece by piece Mellena will uncover the truth about not just herself, but her mother as well.

This book is classified as a YA novel and it accurately fits. The characters are well thought out, and I know that readers will enjoy the attention to detail throughout. You get wonderful detail in more than just the descriptions of the characters but in the landscapes, and the important elements. There are some vague elements in this novel that I felt should have been given more attention, but overall the book is well done.

As this book is part of a series, there will be a mild cliffhanger at the end. It's not a huge one, so don't freak out. LOL! But there is one to leave you wondering what is going to happen next. I'm already eagerly anticipating the next book in this series.

I'm choosing to rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed the attention to detail, the characters, and the overall storyline. This book is a must read for fantasy lovers and readers of YA fiction.
