A Cursed Throne Review Spotlight

I am my mother’s daughter. Princess, born to an angel. Who also happens to be The Queen of Hell, and Leader of the Legion, the group of fallen angels that divided Heaven.

Welcome to the book tour for A Cursed Throne, the first in the Children of the Fallen duet by D.M. Simmons! Read on for more!

Welcome to the book tour for A Cursed Throne by D.M. Simmons! Readers who have read the previous duet by this author will be thrilled to be returning to the universe these characters were conjured in. While this story is not about the parents, it is about their children and the dangers that lie ahead for them.

Welcome to Nev, Declan, Luca, and Kai's story. Nev is about to be going through many things, and none of them she asked for. She's turning 18, and while life is good...it's not great. Her three friends have seemingly turned their backs on her. They've been distant and she has no idea why. Granted though, she will learn the truth later. But will she be able to put aside her pride and hurt and be able to forgive them?

This is a paranormal romance novel with a "why choose theme." Now! With that being said, things move a tad slowly in THAT particular department. Nev ends up with ONE of the guys in THIS book, but that just gives you more to look forward to in the next installment! Yes? YES!

Nev is an interesting character. She's been hurt and she fully intends to make the guys pay for hurting her. Even if that meant taking up with people that at one time she didn't like. Are these new friends really in her corner though? Why did the guys seemingly turn their backs on her?

Turns out that there is more going on than meets the eye. So, the question then shifts...can Nev put aside her feelings and pride (yes, pride because that is the root of quite a bit of this) and do what needs to be done? Let's hope otherwise the bad guys are going to have themselves a heyday! LOL!

There are some steamy scenes in this book and I loved the amount of drama that the author throws in here. It really amps things up and keeps you page-turning. I literally ate this book up. I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next between the characters, and then the author throws in that little extra drama of the danger facing Nev, and next thing you know...the book's over and you're left looking around like... Wait!?! Where's the rest?!

Good news? The second installment should be coming soon. Let's hope right? Because I need to know what happens next. You guys have no idea how hard it is not to drop any spoilers. LOL! I might have dropped a couple small ones, but I tried to keep any spoilers to a minimum. Tough to do when you want to share so much. LOL! But hopefully, your interest will be piqued to go out and grab this book.

Now, for the rating. I'm rating this book...(drumroll) 4.5 out of 5 stars. I'm taking off half a star because while I liked Nev and could understand, to an extent, her feelings concerning the guys, I felt she was more than a little immature at times. Plus, I honestly thought that the reason the guys turned their backs on her was a bigger one than it turns out to be. You just develop this expectation for something bigger than it turns out to be.

All in all, the book is enjoyable, and I encourage you to pick up the previous books that came before this one as they really set the stage for these characters. It's not necessary to read the previous duet to this series, but it definitely elevates the storyline.

Thank you to the author. D.M. Simmons, and R&R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book. I look forward to what comes next!

A Cursed Throne (Children of the Fallen #1)

Publication Date: February 27th, 2023

Genre: Why Choose/ Dark Fantasy Romance

I am my mother’s daughter. Princess, born to an angel. Who also happens to be The Queen of Hell, and Leader of the Legion, the group of fallen angels that divided Heaven.

But I am also my father’s progeny. Daughter of a daemon. Sired when his blood was half mortal after the Devil shot him and tried to claim my mother.

The spirit of Heaven, fires of Hell, and blood of mankind runs through my veins, along with the destiny to either rule or destroy those kingdoms. The crown I was born with is heavy. My powers, beyond that which created the universe. But neither have ever felt a burden thanks to Declan, Kai, and Luca.

For as long as I can remember it’s been the four of us. One mortal, two children of the Fallen, and an heir like no other. Bound by an unconventional childhood, we were best friends, and they were my world. But in the blink of an eye they were gone, cutting me out of their life as if I never mattered at all.

So I did what I had to do. I left them, and our shared world behind, and started a new one. Keeping their three traitorous hearts, far from my own.

It’s been three years since the last time we saw each other, and I haven’t forgotten or forgiven. It’s time to come home and get even.

Angel, daemon, mortal…the blood of all three is in me. I am the heir of each bloodline. But when it comes to power, there is none greater than a heart scorned.

A Cursed Throne is a why-choose romance, meaning the main female character gains multiple love interests over the course of the series. It is the first book of three in the second phase of the After the Fall Universe. It is not necessary to read phase one, but highly recommended. This series has dark elements and themes that may be triggering for some readers, including strong language and sexual situations.
