Girl with a Knife Review Spotlight

Welcome to the book tour for Assault, the first novel in the Girl with a Knife series by James T. Hogg! Read on for more details!

An epic historical novel of love and revenge, good and evil, in seventeenth-century America, spanning five volumes.

Love a good historical fiction novel? Then I have just the series for you! Girl with a Knife is the starter for an epic series of novels by James T. Hogg that will keep you page-turning to the end. This novel is packed with characters from historical times that will engage you, and pull you to the edge of your seat. Hogg works to immerse you into the times of the late 1600s and absolutely succeeds

Book One: Assault starts readers off on this journey with James T. Hogg introducing readers first to the Native American Indians who called the lands of Massachusetts home. A war party is being put together to drive out the white settlers who are creeping in. The intent is to drive them out, but things will not go as planned.

Each chapter will shift in perspective as you start out with the Native Americans and then shift to a group of white men preparing for the fight that they know is to come. You'll see that not all are blood-thirsty monsters, but there is one who has no qualms with torture and slow cruel deaths. Don't worry, there aren't excessive details that will send you scurrying from the pages. The author gives you just enough to paint a picture in your mind of the types of individuals you will be dealing with within these pages.

The author takes time to set the stage and while it may not engage you fully and hold you captive to this book, once you are past the stage setting you will be hooked into this story. You'll slowly learn more about Faythe Wentworth, and the other people in her small village. The minister is definitely someone to keep your eye on. You just get the sense that something isn't quite right with him.

As the story progresses, prepare to be thrown onto a rollercoaster as Faythe has to deal with a horrific situation surrounding her sister. An assault that her father is accused of. We all know how things tended to go when the words "witch" and "witchcraft" were uttered concerning a family back in the Colonial days. Things went ugly and fast! Faythe has quite the fight ahead of her, but it's good to see the people who come to stand at her side as she fights for justice.

But wait! Don't think for a second that there will be a resolution in this book! Oh no, no, no, no, no! Noooo, this is a series people! There is more to come and you're going to want to grab the books to come to find out what happens next. Accusations will fly, and denials will fall from suspects' lips, but the truth? The truth will not come out in this book. Nope! This is just the beginning. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. While the author sets a certain expectation at the beginning that this book will immediately grab you, it does take a couple chapters, but it does happen! Be sure to grab this book and be prepared to be enthralled to the end!
