The Captain's Revenge Review Spotlight

The Syren's Mutiny duology is complete, and The Captain's Revenge is now available! Read on for more!

Happy book release day to Jessica Taylor for the final book in her The Syren's Mutiny Duology! The Captain's Revenge is HEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE people! Go out and grab it! These aren't your "Little Mermaid" mermaids...nooooo these are syrens who will drag you to the deep and watch your last breaths bubble out of you. Well, they might have changed...a bit, but don't go crossing them! Because you just might end up at the bottom.

For those who have read The Syren's Mutiny, you'll remember how the final chapters lead up. Brigid and Caelum had finally found his father, but also discovered a disturbing and horrifying truth of what he was really doing. Tragedy struck not just once, but twice. With the ending leaving you with a broken heart and your jaw on the floor.

Since the end of book one, two weeks have passed. Brigid is still missing and the situation with Caelum and those who remain is tense. Drama is sprouting up like mushrooms after a good rain. Caelum is having issues with some of the syrens, and now he has his own issues that are going to be a serious problem if he's not careful. There have been no signs of where the goddess could have taken Brigid, or so they tell him. But does someone know something that they aren't sharing with the rest of the group? The race is on to find Brigid, and to stay ahead of the troubles that threaten to overwhelm them.

The Captain's Revenge, is hands down a fantastic novel. Where I struggled at times to really immerse myself with book one, book two swept me away from the beginning. The author stays true to alternating between Caelum and Brigid. They both are dealing with their own struggles and while Brigid resigns herself to what she believes her fate will be, Caelum clings to hope.

With each turn of the page, you'll wonder - what's going to happen next? Will Caelum be able to lead his crew? Will he be able to find Brigid or will the task have to be allocated to another? Can the goddess be defeated or will she simply be forced to flee and start over somewhere else? Lots of questions will arise in your mind, but by the end of this story - all will be answered.

Readers who enjoy fantasy novels with a twist on the Little Mermaid you're not going to want to miss out on this duology. Readers who enjoyed the first book, don't miss out on how it all ends! If you were like me and struggled a bit with the first book, don't pass up on this one! You'll immediately see that the author has really found her flow, like she did with the second half of the first book, and that this one is going to be a real page-turner!

I'm rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars! An absolute delight of a novel and a success!

Thank you to the author, Jessica S. Taylor, and R&R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Not all treasure is silver and gold.”

Caelum stopped his father, but at what cost? Brigid was gone, taken by the very woman she once owed her life to, and Caelum was now wanted for his father’s murder. Now, he has to deal with the aftermath of his decisions, and with the other syrens who only seem determined to make his life more difficult.

Brigid, torn from the new life she had begun to make for herself, must now endure the wrath of the goddess who had saved her. To survive, she shuts herself down, silently hoping that Caelum will rescue her and silently resigning herself to the fact that he won’t make it in time before her body succumbs to Cliodhna’s torture.

When whisperings of a mysterious witch in the South reach Caelum, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get Brigid back, including giving up that which he holds most dear. But will he be able to save her in time? And will what remains of his father’s crew really give up that easily?

The Syren’s Mutiny

Publication Date: November 9th, 2022

Genre: Dark Fantasy/ Pirates/ Mythology

It’s frightful bad luck to have a woman aboard.”

Brigid knew the superstition, but when her father tried to marry her off, she had no choice but to stowaway on a ship bound for Bhodheas. When she’s discovered and discarded, her fate seems sealed…until she’s saved by the ocean and its queen.

Transformed into a syren and given new life, Brigid now has the power to seek revenge on those who wronged her.

Caelum has spent his entire life trying to help those who couldn’t help themselves. After years suffering the cruelty of his pirate father, saving others from a similar fate was ingrained in him. But when he’s unable to save a young girl from being thrown overboard for hiding away, he’s devastated.

Until one day, when he’s thrown into the water by unforeseen forces, he comes face to face with the past, and maybe, with his future.

But there’s a darkness lurking on the seas they both call home. And Caelum and Brigid have no idea just how intertwined their stories really are.
