Upon a Wicked Tide Review Spotlight

If you enjoy a darker spin on fairy tales, Upon a Wicked Tide is for you! Read more about the first book in this beautiful duology by Kate Craft!

Prepare to embark into the deep with this dark fantasy novel, Upon a Wicked Tide. Upon a Wicked Tide is the first book in Kate Craft's Wicked Tide Duology and for fans of dark fantasy novels filled with mermaids, sirens, romance, and a mysterious book, you're not going to want to miss this book.

Emery returns home only to find that Death is waiting for her and those she cares for. With the passing of her guardians each requests she make them a promise, and one reveals that there is a book that is to be hers. The book is one that all have, but few get to see. Piece by piece it reveals things to her, but will she heed the warnings that it reveals to her?

Embarking on a quest, Emery is going to find that the warnings her guardians gave her had a purpose, but it's a bit too late. She yearns for adventure, and adventure she will get as she finally leaves the Garden Isles for something more. A prince with no heart? What happened to him? Are there answers to fix him? Can he be fixed? Many questions, and the only way to answer them? Dig deeper and read the story.

Upon a Wicked Tide is told in the first person and is a highly engaging novel. The author weaves a familiar story with this book, but I couldn't quite fully place the fairytale. There are something of mixing together of two different ones, but I enjoyed the story immensely. Emery is an interesting character, but she's not the only one. Prince Ryder is a curious character as well. He has no heart, but there is something there inside him nonetheless.

The author pulls you to the edge of your seat often in this story. Keeping you page-turning for more, you're always eager to find out what happens next, especially when the book in the story has something to tell. The book is both a curiosity and a danger as a couple of the characters will point out. Some might fail to see the danger at first, but there it lurks.

When you come to the end of this first installment you will be left with answers, but I am eagerly anticipating the next book in this duology. I'm choosing to rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. the author kept me engaged from beginning to end and I'm eager for more. There is some romance, but as the author states, it's slow-burn, but I know that more is to come.

Thank you to the author, Kate Craft, and R&R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Genre: Fairy Tale/ Dark Fantasy/ Romance/ Mermaids & Pirates

In a world of sirens, pirates and unspeakable danger, one might crave a quiet life on the Garden Isle…but not this blue-eyed girl.

Upon the death of her guardians, Emerelda Mirabel comes to inherit three curious things:

A book…

Not a diary or fable, but something almost sentient. This riddlesome book hums with power, each page offering strange warnings and temptations…Perhaps speaking to a future already written?

A desire…

Adventure calls to the young captain, a hunger for something more than a simple fisherwoman’s life. Upon her ship, The King’s Arcana, she will sail the eight seas, venturing to strange lands with strangers amongst her crew. But at what cost?

A heartless prince…

Seemingly cursed with no heart, Prince Ryder could not care less about his kingdom, his family or even life itself. But when the king insists his son travel with Emery to find a cure for the affliction, something finally stirs within. Something he cannot explain. Something binding him to the blue-eyed girl.
