The Forbidden Realms Review Spotlight

Welcome to the book tour for The Forbidden Realms! Keep reading for my review and more about this second installment in this engaging series!

The Forbidden Realms is the second book in H.C. Newell's Fallen Light Series. I hope you're ready for this book because it is going to sweep you away to reunite with Neer and her continuing journey.

Book two starts off with the author's thoughtful consideration of readers. She's all too aware that for some of us, it might have been a minute...or two, since we read book one. So tucked into the beginning of this novel is a nice recap of the overarching storyline of book one. Of course, this is just covering the highlights. If you want more details then you're going to have to go back and read book one for yourself. Of course, left out of the ending of the synopsis is one not so tiny detail. Don't worry though, if you think that the author "forgot" about reminding us how book one ended...count yourself wrong. LOL!

If you HAVEN'T read book one, I highly recommend that you go grab it RIGHT NOW!! Because honestly, you're missing out. But, if you have read book one, then by all means - keep reading on.

Now, before you get all excited about what happens next as book two progresses I recommend that you go and grab a box of tissues. Yeah, and go ahead and pull a couple because you're going to need them. Newell not only reminds us about the tragedy that book one ended with, but gives readers a glimpse into what Neer experienced as well. She came away with a small memento to remember her dream friend by, and it is going to bring tears to your eyes. Unless you have a complete heart of stone, you're going to be crying.

This book is going to alternate between Neer and a new character, Aella. Neer is going to be struggling with a lot in this book. The death and loss of her dear friend, the betrayal of the others, and of course, being hunted by The Order. She could really use a break, but as we all know - she's not getting one. Not anytime soon. Instead, she's constantly thrown from one source of danger/trouble to another! You're literally going to be wondering when exactly is she going to get a break to just rest for a minute. Weeeeelllll....you seeeeeeee....the thing issssss....you'll just have to read to find out for yourselves. LOL!

Aella is a really great addition to the story. She's another sorcesses like Neer. The difference? Well, Neer is choosing to drown herself in her pain and anger. To be fair, one can't really blame her for wallowing in her feelings. But Aella seems to be her exact opposite. Aella believes strongly in the path that she is on and her resilience to sticking to her beliefs is phenomenal. Her beliefs mean that she must maintain balance, and we all know just how difficult that can be. She slips here and there, but she does her best to reclaim balance. It's truly admirable.

The author's attention to this detail in this book is absolutely astounding. The detail is so well done and paints such vivid images in your mind of the various scenes depicted in this story. If you're worried that the story gets bogged down with the detail, I can assure you that it does not. The details will keep you engaged and coming back for more of the characters and storyline.

The pacing of the story takes on a moderate pace. While this might be something that some readers aren't a fan of, it suits this book and series just right. The pace may be moderate, but it sweeps you along into the story nonetheless. You're constantly eager to find out what happens next with Neer and her new companions.

Now, when it comes to endings...yeah, this is one of those books that will leave you raging. LOL! Honestly, it's one of the reasons why this author is one of my new favorites. She absolutely knows what she's doing when she decides to close up a book for the time being. So be forewarned - this book ending WILL have you 1) howling and 2) having a hard-to-resist impulse to throw your device. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY DON'T DO IT!! LOL! Resist the urge...just howl. A lot. You'll feel better. A little. Maybe. LOL! For sure though you'll be eagerly looking to find out when the next book is set to come out!

5 out of 5 stars

Thank you so much to the author, H.C. Newell, and Escapist Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book! I can't wait for what comes next!

Author Bio & Information:

H.C. Newell is an American author of epic fantasy. She is best known for the Fallen Light fictional universe, in which her fantasy novel Curse of the Fallen, is set.

Newell began her writing journey at a young age. In elementary school, she would often write small plays for her and her cousins to perform. In middle and high school her love of writing transformed into fiction literature, which she would write in spiral-bound notebooks. By 2015, she had written more than 5 romance and young adult novels and several short stories.

In 2014, Newell started her first novel series, Forthwind, which was a young adult trilogy. As she grew as an author, she found her niche in adult fantasy, and created the Fallen Light universe. This six-part novel series took Newell over seven years to create. She published her debut novel "Curse of the Fallen" in April 2021.

Newell's works have been compared by readers to authors such as J. R. R. Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, Andrejz Sapkowski, and Robert Jordan among others. Newell lives in Nashville, TN with her husband.
