The Rise of Amphitrite is the first book in Savannah L. Ser's Trident Trilogy. This new adult novel will take you into the depths of the ocean as a young woman begins to learn more about herself than she ever thought she'd learn. When secrets come to light, everything changes.

Amy has lived most of her life doing what she was told. All she wanted was to earn the acceptance and approval of her parents. So she strove to succeed and she did. But at a pivotal point in her life, she makes a decision that takes her away from the "planned" path that her father had laid out for her. His original plan? Her taking over his law firm. Her choice? To work in and with the ocean to save the creatures that call it home.

When this book begins to unfold it seems mostly unremarkable. Amy is introduced as a little girl, and then the story shifts forward to when she is older and working in the ocean. Then the story shifts again a few months back to when she makes that pivotal decision. This is essential because the author helps readers to better understand why Amy says that she's no longer on "daddy's money." Granted that phrase makes it sound like she was "cut off" but that's not really how it plays out. It's nice to know that while her father was "disappointed" he's still proud of his daughter. That's typically not the case, so this is really refreshing by comparison.

Things definitely get interesting in small ways with Amy's ability to save a child and the reaction of an older woman there at the time. The woman's reaction to Amy saving the child will absolutely have you raising your eyebrows, but oddly enough, so will the reaction or...lack thereof...of a couple of her colleagues/friends.

There is a lot of ebb and flow in this novel as romance blooms between Amy and Percy. Secrets are coming to light and the author teases little elements in the story that will pique your interest to delve deeper into the story. The ending of this book will intrigue you as to what is coming next for these characters as Amy learns more about not just herself but her friend Percy.
