The Street Between the Pines by J.J. Alo is a mind-blowingly good horror thriller that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end of this book. Brace yourself for a wild ride of thrills, danger, destruction, and more than one close call with death. Well, for Curtis at least. Not everyone in this story will be so fortunate.
The Street Between the Pines quickly grabs your attention with its cryptic cover decked out in night vision colors of green, white, and black. The first thing that is going to catch your eye is the image of a bat-faced creature. It appears to be looming over everything as it sits between two towering pine trees. Waiting for unsuspecting prey to come it’s way to be mercilessly devoured. Their last moments were filled with terror.
As your eyes travel downward through the trees you’ll next notice vehicles parked on either side of the road. Are these vehicles abandoned? Or are they simply parked there waiting for their owners? Some of whom may never return to drive them again. Perched on one vehicle on the left-hand side of the cover you’ll notice a cat. While walking the road you’ll see a man holding a shotgun.

Who is this man you ask? Well, you’ll have gained a clue from the blurb, but that’s just a single clue as to what awaits you deep inside these pages.
The Street Between the Pines is a thrilling horror novel packed with suspense, drama, and tons of twists. Your mind is going to want to go off in one direction concerning what begins to unfold from the prologue, but just be patient. The truth will be revealed and when it is...it will blow your mind!
The Street Between the Pines starts out innocently enough. An elderly man, Frank, is at home, waiting for his wife to return. The news is reporting a storm heading up to Connecticut and the Northeast. Frank is watching the game and has no idea that danger is making its way closer to his house. Strange things begin to take place. Little by little author Alo lures you in with each turn of the page. The anticipation builds and just when this wave is about to crest and break...BAM! Author Alo shifts the story to who will be the main focus of this story – Curtis.
You’re probably going to splutter a bit because you’re going to want to know what happens next, but you’re going to have to wait. It’s coming. Don’t worry. LOL! While The Street Between the Pines focuses mostly on Curtis, author Alo deviates here and there to other characters in the story. We’ll get to see some of the neighbors as they discover strange happenings in their neighborhood.
Stray cats aren’t an unusual phenomenon, but they become one when their numbers mysteriously increase. They’re seen leaving the scene of a crime. They are found lounging out in the middle of the road. Curtis even takes a moment to help one that gets injured during an explosion. Will this good deed come back to reward him at a later time? Guess you’ll have to discover that answer for yourself.
As you read this novel you’ll learn quite a bit about Curtis. Due to some past mistakes, life has gotten to be pretty hard for him. Not just him though, his wife and child as well. Money is tight, the job is demanding, he’s rarely home, and now they’ve been getting letters about “imminent domain.” Talk about a pressure cooker in a situation. Any more and things will probably explode…

Author Alo works to weave a tapestry of stress, strife, and chaos. Now, throw in a tropical storm that is heading their way that spells power outage and you have the perfect recipe for disaster. But there’s more. There is always more. People are turning up dead. The police don’t know what to make of it. But one thing is for sure...it’s another straw on the camel’s back that is creating stress and strife in Curtis’s marriage.
When author Alo says “Curtis is about to have a really bad day” what he means is that Curtis is about to have a really bad week. LOL! Bad news for Curtis, but good news for us readers as we get a delicious story that will keep you coming back for more all the way to the last page.
The Street Between the Pines starts off “innocently” enough, with just enough of a horrific scene playing out before shifting back to “normalcy.” Curtis working a job, gets called home, a storm is brewing, and then come the nightmares...the bizarre visions. What does it all mean? Is there a supernatural element to it all? Or is it just all in his mind?
Author Alo weaves together a collective of realistic and interesting characters. The familial struggles that are threatening to see his marriage go down the toilet. The financial pressures that are weighing them down and refusing to let up. Now, throw in a creature that doesn’t mind turning his family into its next meal and you’ve just lit the fuse to blow everything to kingdom come.
Now, is this some random creature that has been lurking in the waterways and is just some...urban legend waking up for a meal before going away again? Could be. But what if it wasn’t? What about that strange facility on the island across from where Curtis and his family live? It’s supposed to be abandoned. But is it really?

The depth of The Street Between the Pines is honestly mind-blowing. Author Alo really does his research when it comes to this book and pulls out all the stops. The Street Between the Pines is more than just Curtis’s story of survival. This is a story of secrets, lies, deception, and the nature of humanity.
The deeper you go into this story the more you’ll be drawn to dig deeper just like Curtis. Like him you’ll search for the truth and in the end find more than you were bargaining for.
One of our favorite things about this book is author Alo’s imagination. He just lets it rip and run free. It’s awesome and truly unexpected. You are not going to have a clue of what to expect when he unleashes his horrors on you. One thing is for sure... your jaw is going to be on the floor and your eyes...are going to be bugging out of your head. It’s going to be fantastic.
The Street Between the Pines is shockingly good. When we say “shockingly” we don’t mean “oh wow, that was actually good.” No, we mean “Wow! That was insane and it was awesome!!!” Yes, that. That right there. LOL! Author Alo makes sure that you’re not prepared for the twists, the surprises and the drama that will play out on these pages and we loved every single second of it.
If we had one critic it would be the noting of the passage of time. It’d be nice if when there is a gap, of several days, months, or more, it be noted. This way readers aren’t having to guess or speculate as to how the story is moving timeline-wise. There are a couple of places where a day or two have passed, but we thought it was the same day and it wasn’t. Or even that only a month or so had passed, but it was more than that.
Readers who love a good thriller...The Street Between the Pines is the book for you. Love a good monster horror novel? Yep, The Street Between the Pines is the book for you. One thing is for sure when you finish this book...you’re going to be a fan of author J.J. Alo. Welcome to the club friend.

About the Author
J.J. Alo is a commercial actor, designer, and author. Prior to
becoming a full-time writer, he was a bartender and library media
specialist.
As a lover of the macabre, J.J. has written
several award-winning screenplays and novels, creating his Southern
New England Horror Anthology filled with inherently flawed, complex
characters and antiheroes. The novel has earned five stars for BEST
