Season of the Runer: Book Two Sojourn Review

I'm thrilled to share this new release with you all today! This beautiful dark Fantasy is called Sojourn and it is the latest installment in the Season of the Runer series by Abigail Linhardt. Read on for my review and a chance to win one of two bookish loot boxes!

Season of the Runer by Abigail Linhardt continues with book two in this series Sojourn.
Tzarik and Sybal have made the decision to leave Al’Myrah. Chaos and death are left in their wake after numerous battles with a necromancer and a man with the power of djinn behind him. The people have turned against them even more than they were, and now Reavers hunt them. In the hopes of getting a fresh start, a place, a chance to hide, they have fled. But could it be that where they are going holds more dangers to come?

Season of the Runer: Sojourn picks up where things left off with Tzarik and Sybal. Book one showcased a lot of growth for both of these characters, and they continue to grow and develop as they face new challenges in this book. Getting to Xia is no easy feat when they are set upon by dangers and one of those dangers...pirates. Tzarik just wants to lay low, keep a low profile and get on his feet doing what he does - slaying monsters, but Sybal still clings to the desire of helping those around her despite the hurts that she has suffered back home.

The author once again weaves an engaging story that had me page-turning to learn what was going to happen next. When I first started this series, I was expecting a lot of monsters, danger, and drama. Well, I got two out of three. LOL! Book two continues in that same vein with danger and drama, but in a new country with new people who have their own secrets that they'd prefer to keep buried away from the average person's eye. I love the air of mystery that is woven into these books. The mysterious creed, the Wushito, immediately pique my interest when they come upon the scene.

The people's reaction to them especially with the pirates is interesting. I immediately get the feeling that something is going on. Like there one knows something more than the other, while the other praises them as being a light in a dark place. The author immediately has me wanting to know more about Wushito. How is that they have no monsters in Xia? Who exactly are these people? Why aren't there any Runers? Did they, those in Wushito, have a had in doing away with them? So many questions, and the only way to get answers? Delve deeper into the storyline.

I love a good dark fantasy novel and this book checks the boxes for me in so many ways. You even get a few little hints of romance. I know not much can really come of things, but it adds a nice bit of spice to the storyline. Add in that something...or someone from their past is coming back to make a reappearance? Yes, please!

Needless to say, I am excited for the next book in this series. I can't wait to find out what happens next for these characters. If you enjoy dark fantasy novels, with thrills, danger, and so much more then you are not going to want to miss out on this book. I highly recommend you read these books in order. They are worth checking out. These characters and the storyline will engage you from the beginning and keep you coming back for more. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Thank you to the author, Abigail Linhardt and R& R Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review these books.
