It Calls From the Doors (Foreword by Dave Jeffery, author of “A Quiet Apocalypse”)

Publication Date: October 15th, 2021

Genre: Horror/ Anthology

Open the door to your nightmares.

It Calls From the Doors is an anthology of 19 horror stories of darkness, death, and despair published by Eerie River Publishing that you are not going to want to miss. When you close a door, it is supposed to protect you, keep you safe, and keep the world out. But what happens when this source of protection no longer does what it once did? What do you do when you open a door you should never have opened? What happens when something dark and twisted whispers to the darkness inside of you...and a part of you whisper back? Turn the page, heed the call, and find out what lurks inside.

It Calls From the Doors is full of deliciously twisted and dark stories. I’m probably going to be “stalking” some of these authors to read more of their works because I just loved how wicked their stories were. If you’re hoping for individual reviews of each of the stories, I’m afraid you’re going to be disappointed. Some of the stories in this anthology are really short, and I’d hate to deprive any reader of the joys...or frights that reside inside of those pages, so I’ll just give a general overview.

When it comes to anthologies, I don’t read a lot of them. I prefer reading a full story and getting all of the thrills and the chills. But trust me when I say this, this anthology is worth checking out. Each of the authors who contributed to this really knows their stuff. Some of the stories will stick with you, and those are always the best. The ones where you wonder...if I close this door and open it again...what will be waiting on the other side? Will the apartment that shouldn’t be there be waiting for me? When you’re going down the escalator, you’ll wonder – is there any possibility someone is trapped down there underneath begging for help? Is there something dark and sinister lurking in the woods waiting to answer your silent plea for revenge against those who have hurt you? Is that abandoned old house really abandoned? Or is there someone...or someTHING waiting inside to steal you away?

While I enjoyed most of the stories in this anthology, some left me a bit puzzled. Some of the stories were less creepy and were just strange. They left me thinking “huh” and actually wondering what just happened. Where was the author trying to take me with this story? Some of the stories I wanted more. I wanted to know exactly what happened to the character. I get it though. For some, that’s the point. The fear and horror are conjured from not knowing. The not knowing what was the character’s final and tragic ending.

Like all anthologies, this one gives readers a nice variety of the paranormal and supernatural along with a touch of “reality.” When I say reality I mean you get stories of where it’s just a sick and twisted human doing evil things. I will admit that with one story, I wondered if there was a darker twist that I was missing, but that was just my imagination coming out to play. To the author who wrote the story with the twisted old man...well played on activating my imagination at the end. LOL! Some of the stories are darker than others, while some will probably just give you a little chill. The variety of the stories and how they are placed in this book though will keep you on your toes, and I love it.

If you aren’t afraid of reading these in the dark, then by all means indulge in this anthology. It definitely heightens the stories when the only source of light is the light coming from your device as each page you turn darkness swirls all around you. I’m rating this collection of dark and twisted stories 4.5 out of 5 stars. This anthology is really a lot of fun to read, and I look forward to reading more from many of these authors. I highly recommend this book to all readers who enjoy a good horror story, especially one that sticks with you long after the story is done...on the pages. Remember to mind the doors that intrigue you, the ones that pique your interest. They just might be keeping something locked away that should stay locked away.

Thank you to the authors, publisher and R&R Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book!
