This absolutely gorgeous and twisted retelling of Jack the Ripper
mixed with Jekyll and Hyde is not for the faint of heart. Check
triggers carefully before entering the Living Nightmares world!
Looking for a darkly delicious mash-up that will keep you page-turning and begging the author for more? Then get excited, because The House of Whispers is exactly that. This book will grip you from the beginning and keep you coming back for more. Before this book is done, you will be a fan of this author. If you aren't already, of course.
House of Whispers is the first book in C. Herbert's Living Nightmare series and this book is darkly delicious. Once we started reading this book we couldn't put it down. Of course, you so much as mention "dark", "horror", "twisted" or anything along those lines and you're going to have us sliding up next to you saying "tell me more" with a Cheshire Cat grin. LOL! So, trust us when we say this...C. Herbert? De-LIVERS!!!
House of Whispers is dark, and twisted, keeps you on the edge of your seat with shifting POV, and refuses to let you go. The author kindly includes an explanation of some of the terminology used in this novel allowing you to have a better idea of what certain words mean in context to the storyline. It helps give readers a foothold before diving in. Definitely a useful piece of material.
The first character you're going to cross paths with? Well, it's going to be one who hides in the shadows...the Ripper. But he has another name, too. Are you going to immediately be thrown into the deep end? Yes, and no. You're going to be witnessing what he sees...and that's a death. A murder to be precise. Casper, the other character you'll be following more heavily is the one doing the taking of life. Her actions draw his attention...and much...much more. She's captured him in more ways than one and shaking him? Yeah...good luck with that.
The twists, surprises, and drama are packed into this book to the brim! You get a nice amount of world-building to go along with it all to really flesh this story out and give readers something to sink their teeth into. Casper is an interesting character as page-by-page she comes to life more and more. She has secrets buried deep inside herself and little by little Ripper brings them to the surface.
Prepare for an ending that will leave you in quite a twist. LOL! One thing is for sure and that is that you'll be eagerly heading off to follow this author to find out when the next book is set to come. Or to simply placate yourself with another of her works while we wait. But this book is an absolute must read. Mind you...read the triggers before diving into this book. It's not for everyone. But for those who enjoy the darkness and embrace it...this book is absolutely for us.
