Welcome to the tour for The Seldom Wings, the start of a new dark fantasy series by Beka Westrup! Read on for more details!
The Seldom Wings is the first book in Beka Westrup's The Winged Spirits series. Take a minute to look at this book's gorgeous cover. It is sure to captivate your attention and pique your interest in what lies beneath its covers. The line in the title "Angels will mourn" is sure to have you eagerly diving into this book as fast as you can possibly can.
As you delve into The Seldom Wings the author greets readers with a prologue that will immediately immerse you into the story. A group of sisters are facing down a dark moment. There is more than just them, but this particular scene that plays out is about them and them alone. You hope for the best for them, but the darkness of the scenes leads one to believe that hope...may not be in the cards for them.
This book is an engaging story to dig deeper into. As you read, you leave the characters that you were briefly introduced to behind. Will you ever cross paths with them again? Well, you'll just have to read to find out, but most of us will be inclined to say - "Probably not." But authors love to keep readers guessing so don't get too solid in that process. The present-day focuses on a new character who will be the focus of the story. She's searching for something, and an opportunity has arisen for her to find some answers. While she does find some, something else comes up that demands her attention. A simple letter.
This book flows beautifully. The chapters are short, but not too short, so the reader stays engaged by continuously wanting to know what is going to happen next with the characters in these pages. Sia is both an interesting character and a difficult woman. Don't worry, the author lets you know this from the beginning, so if you have a problem with difficult characters...well, just give this book a try regardless. LOL.
The Seldom Wings is a slow to moderate-paced book. Normally, this would bore me to tears, but the author expertly keeps me engaged. Sia has problems, and by visiting a friend who is dying she brings herself closer to those same problems. The air that this book is steeped in is going to draw you further and further in. You're going to be curious about the creatures that lurk in the shadows and the dangers that not only hunt Sia but haunt her as well.
This book is intriguing, and despite the slower pace, the descriptions and the characters will demand that you devour this book and beg for book two to find out what happens next.
The Seldom Wings is an enjoyable novel, and I'm looking forward to reading what happens next with these characters.

For years, Sia’s hidden herself in the gnashing forest, dodging her father’s bounty hunters and ignoring the nameless magic in her veins. When she receives a letter from an estranged lover, she returns to the coast she used to call home, within reach of her father’s magical city hovering above the smog and the arranged marriage waiting for her. This place is not somewhere Sia wishes to linger—the land is noxious and filled with rebels, witches, and other humans who become walking corpses when they die. What was intended to be a brief visit turns into a death-bed promise anchoring Sia to Gwaith House for the foreseeable future. She agrees to look after her first love’s human child until her widower proves he can care for his daughter himself.
The thing with promises is: Sia can’t break them. No seraph can. At least, not without severe consequences.
While navigating the complex feelings she develops for the angry widower and her own grief, Sia becomes entangled in a mysterious string of dismembered corpses roaming the smog and a strange detective who refuses to leave her alone. As the desperate undead draw closer and closer to the child she is sworn to protect, Sia races to find the murderer responsible for creating them. She needs to figure it out quickly, or she may risk falling right back into her father’s scorching hands.
